GrandSport invents Short Course Road Racing!

Lets re-invent road racing!

You might ask - what is the appeal of oval racing to the racer and the fans?
From an oval racers’ point of view, it is the high concentration involved in the door to door racing, and the crew having limited time to make things happen.  There is always a car to pass or you are always being pursued. Fun and exciting! Great for the fans!

If you are a road racer, you know you often run a race and are never passed or pass anyone. Lets face it, when you have a couple of guys to race against, it is way more fun!  Short Course Road Racing! (SCRR)

Recently the Lemons and ChumpCar folks have done an excellent job, and have capitalized in this fun by putting a ton of cars on a full road course, and creating the traffic atmosphere.  That concept is great, but the challenge is that not all of us want to drive on a track with limited skilled drivers, and then quite possibly crash into each other all day, and then have our car crushed because we were too fast! (It happened to us!).  Some folks would like to race with other competent drivers, door to door, in a car that works and have the fun traffic factor and not wreck their cars.  Short Course Road Racing. (SCRR)

Why does oval racing get fans and roadcourse racing does not?  Well, watching a bunch of cars zoom by every minute or so is can be boring, or in oval racing watching a bunch of guys turn left can be boring.  But at least in oval racing you can see the whole race and the cars go by often.  This formula attracts fans because of all the excitement of seeing everything that is going on!  Why does oval racing pay prize money – because it attracts fans and fans attract sponsors! Wives, friends, and dogs at sport scar racing events don’t help pay the bills.

The combination of the fans being able to see all the corners/action and the door-to-door excitement plus the prize money for the drivers equals a winning combination!

For the last year we have trying to decide on a cheap fun car(s) to conduct our Short Course Road Race Series with prize money!  After much thought and consideration we decided on two cars!

In  2012 GrandSport will be running its own Short Course Road Race Series during the Groove Union Track days.  This series is based on the Porsche Boxster and the Mazda Miata, with the rules set out by the Porsche Club of America (Boxster) or SCCA (Miata).  There will be elimination heats that lead to the main at the end of the day.  The Boxsters will race against Boxsters and the Miatas will race against Miatas. BUCKLE UP BUTTER CUP, this is going to be fun for all!
